Isoguvacine is a potent and selective agonist for the GABAAR that does not cross the blood brain barrier and so is a peripherally restricted GABAAR agonist. Isoguvacine, 2 mg/kg, i.p., was administered beginning at a young age to test if it ameliorated tactile hypersensitivity in ASD models with fewer adverse effects than brain-penetrating benzodiazepines such as midazolam, including sedation and cognitive impairment, which are attributed to a CNS site of drug action. |
