Relevance to Autism

Rare mutations involving the CSNK1D gene have been identified in individuals with ASD (Pinto et al., 2010).

Molecular Function

This gene is a member of the casein kinase I (CKI) gene family whose members have been implicated in the control of cytoplasmic and nuclear processes, including DNA replication and repair. It encodes an essential serine/threonine-protein kinase that regulates diverse cellular growth and survival processes including Wnt signaling, DNA repair and circadian rhythms. Two transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been found for this gene.
